Cape May Honey Farm

Where Is It? On Sunset Boulevard, across from Exit Zero Filling Station.

Why Should I Go? Buying from the Cape May Honey Farm is a sweet experience because…

1. You get to support owners Doug and Andi Marandino, two of the hardest-working people on the island. Along with raising two young boys, the Marandinos harvest honey from five apiaries around some of the finest and most natural areas of West Cape May. And their bottling and labeling is done by hand.

2. The shop has a charming rustic aesthetic, with handmade shelves fashioned from hive boxes.

3. The honey is unadulterated, unlike the stuff you might find at the grocery store. “When you buy grocery store honey, you don’t always know what you’re getting,” says Doug. “Possibly Chinese honey that’s been laundered through different countries.”

4. Stop by their tasting bar and try a sample. There are many varieties — some meant to cure different ailments, from bronchitis to insomnia.

5. There are health and beauty-promoting products, from lip balms to night creams. “Nothing the bees make goes to waste,” Andi says.

6. You might learn a fascinating thing or two — bees do a dance called a waggle and pollinate one-third of our food supply. “I’ve come to understand how really important they are,” says Andi.

Insider Tip: Do you suffer from allergies? Try the Wildflower Honey — it works wonders.
